Isabella Bikoff

About

About Me!

Hi! My name is Isabella Bikoff. I'm a freshman at IUPUI, hoping to attend nursing school next fall. My current major is pre-nursing. In my free time I enjoy doing my friend's and family's nails, as well learning American Sign Language. Some values that are important to me are loyalty, respect, and integrity. I like to follow these values myself, along with surrounding myself others who prioritize similar values. I would describe my personality as fun-loving and welcoming. I feel as if I get along well with others, and respond well to constructive criticism. One person who shaped who I am today is my mother. She is a single mother and has always influenced independence and valuable morals on me. One experience that I credit to who I am today is my intership opportunity my senior year of high school. I became a certified nursing assistant (CNA). This job made me positive of my choice to become a nurse; as well as introduced me to all difference walks of life. Being a CNA taught me that every moment in life is not guaranteed, and that every choice you make can impact your life. I will always be so grateful I got to experience that environment and gain such essential life lessons at such a young age. In the future I hope to be an nurse practitioner for a obstetrician/gynecologist (OB/GYN). I have a passion to help women and uterus owners throughout their gestational journey, fertility/infertility struggles, and other disorders such as endometriosis or vaginismus.

My Major & Career Goals

My major is nursing. After I receive my Bachelor's of Science in Nursing degree (BSN), I hope to go on to complete a nurse practitioner program at Vanderbilt University. The degree I wish to receive is a family nurse practitioner (FNP) and certified nurse midwife (CNM) degree. Which would qualify me to deliver infants in the state of Indiana, as well as other states if I chose to move. As far as minors go, I don't currently have one, but I hope to minor in American Sign Language (ASL). I have a moderate hearing loss in both ears which has furthered my interest in sign language. I have taken first year ASL and I love it so far!

My end career goal is to be a nurse
practitioner for an OB/GYN. I want to help people using the nursing model rather than the medical model, which is a huge reason why I chose this path. I would love to deliver babies, assist in c-sections, treat patients dealing with infertility, and satisfy any other gynecological needs. I am so excited for when my education begins, and I'm looking forward to all the excitement that comes with the job!

My First Semester Experience

From applying to IUPUI to the end of my first semester I've had a great experience. I applied to IUPUI in the fall of 2022, and patiently awaited a response. When I finally got one I was so exited that I got in. Then come July it was time to go to orientation. I was so excited and nervous. I went really well, I made a few friends, learned more about my major, learned how to work One.IU, and how to schedule/pick out classes. Then in early August bridge week started and I was really really nervous, but I got really lucky and got a very good first year seminar class. When the actual semester started I realized how different college is from high school, and how much more I loved it. I'm so happy I chose IUPUI.

My classes at IUPUI have not been too hard, I've been doing well in all my classes besides anatomy. Anatomy has not been going well, and I have learned that studying is not my strong suit. I never had to study in high school and that is what I attribute to my downfall in that class. I have every intention to continue on in the class and push through, and I have accepted that if I have to retake the class that's ok and I will strive to do better. I have learned that I am definitely a in-person learned and could not succeed in an online class. I watched my roommate take one and it made me realize that I could not learn online like her.

I learned that if I try hard I can do really well in a class, and I hope to do the same next semester!
